Requests for speakers or for interviews regarding Japanese American
internment during World War II come from chapter members & friends,
Bay area students, teachers, & newspaper & TV reporters. The requests
are most often to speak with students writing a paper; to classrooms,
elementary through college; civic groups; churches hosting special programs;
teacher training workshops; media; and more recently a Bay Area storyteller,
Megumi.
Most actively participating in the above are Jack Nakashima & Mollie
Fujioka. Also having spoken to groups are Masaye Nakamura & Isabel
Oshiro.
Most Niseis & some Sanseis in the chapter have been internees, but most often are too shy to participate in "telling their stories." The chapter has compiled oral histories of some members who have since passed on. These are invaluable resources. These oral history interviews have yet to be transcribed.
If you or someone you know would like to have a speaker for your activity please contact the chapter through Mollie Fujioka.
